Ben Bedford was named one of the 50 most significant singer-songwriters of the past 50 years by Rich Warren on his radio program, The Midnight Special, last Saturday, July 24. The Midnight Special airs each Saturday night on Chicago’s WFMT 98.7 and is syndicated across the country, as well as broadcast on Sirius-XM satellite radio. The list, which includes Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Steve Goodman, John Prine, Gordon Lightfoot, Judy Collins, Cheryl Wheeler, Diana Jones, John Gorka, and Townes Van Zandt, among others, was subsequently posted on Sunday, July 25 to The Chicago Tribune website by journalist Eric Zorn. The list appears on Zorn’s blog “Change of Subject: Observations, Reports, Tips, Referrals, and Tirades”. Ben Bedford’s second album, Land of the Shadows, has stayed on the Euro Americana charts for another month, falling to number 18 for the month of July, 2010. The album peaked last month at number 12. For July, Larkin Poe tops the charts followed by Fred Eaglesmith at number 2, Darrel Scott at number 3, Judy Collins at number 14, Terri Hendrix at number 19 and Natalie Merchant at 21. The Euro Americana chart is a 25 position monthly chart and is compiled by DJs, journalists, retailers, promoters and other people interested in Americana music from all over Europe.
